This sweet yeast leavened bread associated with the holidays was first baked in northern Italy around the 15th century. The domed top is said to look like the dome of St. Peter�s Basilica in Rome and was said to have been first baked by a young man from Milan, Italy named Toni. The sweet bread with fruit and the domed top became forever known as Pan de Toni, or Toni�s bread. This Panettone is baked in Verona, Italy just in time for the holidays by Pasticceria Scarpato using fresh butter, whole eggs, natural yeast, raisins, and candied citrus peels. Panettone cakes are the classic Italian cake.
