Jack Downey swung open the doors to Philadelphia based Downey's Restaurant over 25 years ago, started serving Irish fare and his wife's Irish whiskey cakes for dessert – and does so to this day. We first heard about Downey’s Irish Whiskey Cakes over an early Christmas morning coffee with friends a few years ago. Our friend, Joe, an expert on everything Irish – especially Irish food and whiskey – told us that if we really wanted to find great coffee cakes with great traditions we had to try Downey’s Irish Whiskey cakes. We did – and Joe is right. Downey’s Irish Whiskey cake is every bit as moist and rich as he promised it would be – and when served Downey’s style with an Irish Whiskey sauce – well, you can almost hear the bagpipes. Downey’s Irish Whiskey cake is a walnut cake steeped with a generous portion of Irish Whiskey Glaze. The rich one-pound cake serves approximately four to six and will keep one year if unopened. Store in the refrigerator when open. Heat the cake just enough to melt the sugar in the liquor - perhaps 30 seconds in the microwave - and serve it plain or Downey's style with an

or perhaps

Irish Whiskey cake is a popular St. Patrick's Day cake and year-round gourmet gift.
